Marcialla, village in the township of Barberino Val d’Elsa, confirms itself “place of the pedal”. Not only does it host the prestigious Trofeo Matteotti in June, but on Sunday, July 24, it will be the host of “A ruota del Matteotti”, a free running cycling/tourist rally plus a self-managed rally which is part of the Uisp schedule for 2016.

On Sunday, July 24, in Piazza Brandi, sign up will be from 7:30 to 8:30 am. The first will start between 8:30 and 9:30am. The self-managed rally will leave between 9:30 and 11:30am.

Entry to the cycling/tourist rally and the self-managed rally: 8 euros. Lunch: 15 euros (children under 10 eat free). Entry to the rally + lunch: 20 euros.

The long itinerary: from Marcialla to Tavarnelle, then towards San Donato in Poggio, Sicelle, Panzano in Chianti, Greve in Chianti. Up to the Passo del Sugame (refreshments). Then towards Dudda, Lucolena, Badiaccia a Montemuro, Radda in Chianti (refreshments). Finally: Castellina in Chianti, then San Donato in Poggio,Tavarnelle, ending in Marcialla (refreshments). For a total of 91 kilometers and 1700 meters of incline.

The short itinerary leaves from Marcialla as well. It passes Tavarnelle, San Donato in Poggio, Sicelle, Lucarelli, Radda in Chianti (refreshments), Castellina in Chianti, San Donato in Poggio, Tavarnelle, Marcialla (refreshments). For a total of 65 kilometers and a total incline of 900 feet.

For entry to both itineraries a membership card for cyclo-amateurs or cyclotourism accompanied by a medical/sports certificate showing racing suitability is required. Entry to the self-managed rally is allowed with only a cyclotourism membership card.

Each entry will be guaranteed an abundant race pack, carrying food plus refreshments at stands along the way. At the end of the rally, it will be possible to use the showers at the town sports field and get massages from the sports physiotherapist and masseur, Emiliano Marchese.

For lunch, at the food stand in piazza Brandi, the menu is as follows: two first courses, a second course, side dish, wine water, anddessert. Advance reservations are appreciated (Luigi 3494520793; Giacomo 3389912734, ucmarcialla@gmail.com).

There will be guaranteed health assistance from an ambulance which will follow the route. UISP regulations are in vigor. It is obligatory to wear a hard, protective helmet and a neutral jersey or one with the name of the society you belong to. The rules of the road must be followed.
