The “Città dell’Olio” have met the Holy Father, Pope Francis, on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the birth of the association.
Participation in this extraordinary event – which took place during the public audience of the Pope in St. Peter’s Square in Rome – was sealed by the handing out of the tribute that on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the Oil Cities was made by the Trevi sculptor Marco Ruberti.
The precious work is a Christ in olive wood from the land of San Francesco: “A day that we will not forget and that – on the occasion of an anniversary that marks an important milestone for us: 25 years of commitment to spreading the culture of oil – we celebrated with a gift to the Holy Father. A work of high ideal value, a hymn to a millenary culture – that of the olive tree – a symbol of peace and brotherhood but also of redemption”.
The national association “Vittà dell’Olio” brings together 350 Italian olive territories, and has always been committed to the dissemination of the culture of olive and quality olive oil, in the protection and promotion of the environment and the olive and education landscape of the consumer, through programs aimed at schools.
In St. Peter’s Square he was present with a large delegation of oil city administrators: among them the vice president Marcello Bonechi (mayor of Castellina in Chianti).
