The fifth edition of the Granfondo del Gallo Nero Race, which was run on Sunday September 24th, has seen the largest number of participants yet. This event is clearly growing in popularity.

“We’ve reached 2000 subscribers – says Gerardo Giorgi who works in the Consorzio Vino Chianti Classico marketing department – and we’re very happy about the result”.

One of the reasons why so many people chose to ride around the Chianti roads on this first autumn weekend, is the fact that this year the Granfondo Race has been included in the Prestigio di Cicloturismo circuit.

“We’re very proud for having been chosen – says Giorgi – It means that our work is valued as being reliable and efficient. And speaking of numbers, we’ve had more participants than last year, regardless of the Prestigio circuit”.

On Sunday morning all participants started from Radda in Chianti, in the heart of the Chianti Classico region. There were two routes: medio and grandfondo (86 and 133 kilometres). The cyclists bravely faced the challenges of our hills.

“It’s quite a demanding race”, says Valerio, from Brisighella “but extremely pleasant. An end-of-season race which is very well organised”.

“We’d like to make every cyclist feel important,” Giorgi continues, “this is crucial to us.” “After having contributed to a stage in the Giro d’Italia” he concludes, “we want to continue to focus on cycling tourism, but without creating huge events”.

Starting from next year, we will allow a limited number of entries. Our aim is quality, not quantity.

Special thanks go to Simone Fabbrini and Laura Cavalleri, the heart and soul of the event, as well as to all the students of the Saffi and Buontalenti Alberghiere schools.
