Intense rain and biting cold did not stop the heroic cyclists, in San Candido (Bolzano) yesterday for the first edition of Eroica Dolomiti.
San Candido provided all the elements for a happy debut in the Eroica world. The Val Pusteria, with the Three Peaks of Lavaredo, are part of a very welcoming territory that is ideal for the cycling of yore, pedalling along gravel roads, in the saddle of bikes built at least thirty years ago, with their old charm that makes them ever more attractive to enthusiasts of all ages.
Yesterday from San Candido to Dobbiaco, then on to Cortina D’Ampezzo and Passo Tre Croci, then Lake Misurina before the steep descent to Dobbiaco and return to San Candido, except for the strongest and particularly courageous riders, who climbed Prato Piazza to enjoy the cloud-covered panorama of the Dolomites, mountains and peaks that are a Unesco world heritage site and the setting for unforgettable feats accomplished by cycling’s great champions.
Eroica Dolomiti is an event for members of the Ciclo Club Eroica, which will announce it’s activities for 2018 on 1 October next in Gaiole in Chianti, during the Twenty-first Edition of L’Eroica.
There will be opportunities to cycle, not only in San Candido but in Europe and even further afield.
