The traditional Verrazzano Day is back on Wednesday 17th April in Greve in Chianti.

A yearly event that celebrates the connection between the heart of the Chianti region and the United States of America.

The event starts at 5.30pm in Piazza Matteotti, under the Verrazano statue, with a commemoration of the great explorer and a tribute to his monument.

Representatives of the municipal administration, Luigi Giovanni Cappellini (Castello di Verrazzano), the US consul in Florence Christopher Polillo will be present. To follow a musical show by the Filarmonica Giuseppe Verdi of Panzano in Chianti.

At 6.30pm participants can visit the Castello di Verrazzano, Giovanni da Verrazzano’s birthplace.

On this occasion, the “Cacao” exhibition will be staged by the Accademia dei Georgofili, in collaboration with the Fondazione Giovanni Da Verrazzano.

Finally, at 7.30 pm, aperitif on the panoramic terrace; at 8.30pm dinner “I viaggi nel Nuovo Mondo: ”(Travels to the New World), organised by the Associazione Cuochi Fiorentini (reservations: write to eventi@verrazzano.com, or call 055854243, by 10th April).
