Classical music will be the background to this year’s Christmas festivities in Greve in Chianti and its surroundings. The ancient hamlets, the squares, churches, the libraries, palaces and public spaces will celebrate Christmas playing some of the most famous pieces of classical music.

Lights, nativity scenes, games, street markets, books, creative ideas and artefacts that show the artistic and artisan life of the Tuscan countryside, will make an appearance next to the gifts beneath the Christmas tree in the squares of Greve, Strada, San Polo, Lucolena and Poggio alla Croce.

But this year a harmony of sounds will guide the long journey of Santa Claus, this curious and itinerant explorer.

This series of events is promoted by the Municipality of Greve, in collaboration with the Città Metropolitana, the Orchestra da Camera Fiorentina, Greve’s Music School, local associations and the Centro Commerciale Naturale Le Botteghe di Greve.

The first great event will be on 8th December, in occasion of the Immacolata feast.

In Piazza Matteotti at 6pm the Chamber Orchestra of Greve in Chianti and the Connecticut Virtuosi, directed by Adrian Sylveen with Luca Rinaldi to the violin, will perform in a concert with Mozart, Grieg and Bach music.

On the same day in Panzano, for the Feast of Santa Cecilia, the celebration of the Mass will be followed by the concert of the Giuseppe Verdi Philharmonic directed by maestro Lorenzo Anichini.

The Christmas concert scheduled for December 15th at 9pm at the Teatro Boito by Greve Music School is very much anticipated.

Another not-to-be-missed concert by the Verdi Philharmonic will be staged in Panzano on December 16th and on the 17th it will be the turn of Greve’s Orchestra da Camera in the Church of Santa Croce in Greve in Chianti, the concert will be conducted by the violinist and concert master Luca Rinaldi in collaboration with the Città Metropolitana and the Orchestra da Camera Fiorentina.

In the Pieve di Rubbiana in San Polo in Chianti on Friday 22nd at 6pm, on the occasion of the thousand-year anniversary of this country church, maestro Giuseppe Lanzetta will direct the Orchestra da Camera Fiorentina. The evening program features Mozart and Bach music. The Bishop Monsignor Mario Meini will be present.
