The ancient history of Barberino Val d’Elsa, Medieval fort, becomes a perfumed garden, with an essence that unites the past and present, an essence that spreads out along the roads and piazzas and creates a dialogue between two gates of the past, from the Porta Senese to the Porta Fiorentina.
The colors of the roses and the seasonal flowers mix with the taste of wine and the flavors of the best local products. They mix with the creative talent of master artisans and the local artists.
The Valdelsa township, which has carried the Bandiera Arancione (orange flag signifying touristic-environmental excellence) will host the 11th edition of “Barberino in fiore”, promoted by local businesses with the patronage of the township.
The market, dedicated to flowers, food and wine, the hand-made and the art of Chianti and Valdelsa, will bring nature to the village on Saturday, May 13, from 4 PM to 11 PM and on Sunday, May 14, from 7:30 AM to 8 PM.
The event will be highlighted by an exhibition of roses, flowers and local plants, local food and wine, hand-made items and paintings and sculptures. Along the Via Vittorio Veneto, the wineries of the area will offer tastings.
You can buy a “Party glass” for 5 euros which will allow you three samples from the winery gazebo located near the Church of San Bartolomeo.
A wide sampling of artisan and artistic products will be available. There will be accessories; belts, hats, bags, painted fabrics, costume jewelry, and home and garden furnishings and objects.
THE PROGRAM
The festival offers a rich program of cultural, theatre and music events. At 5 PM, children, protagonists of an exhibition organized by the Music Tribe, will go on stage.
Starting at 5:30 PM, near the Ospedale dei Pellegrini, a show featuring bronzes and reproductions of classic works will be exhibited. They are from the historic “Fonderia Artistica Ferdinando Marinelli”, known for the fusion of masterpieces of the Renaissance and antiquity.
At 6:30 PM, with “Premiamo lo sport”, the town Union meets the grand champions of Barberino. Also at 6:30 PM, the food-wine stand “Grigliata d’autore per Barberino in fiore” will be functional in the courtyard of the Fattoria Pasolini dall’Onda Borghese.
On Saturday, the 13th, at 9:15 PM, the duo “GlisChianti” will perform. The evening ends with a concert and cabaret by the Tuscan entertainer, Lorenzo Baglioni. Free entrance.
Sunday, May 14, begins early, at 7:30 AM, with “Pedalando nel Chianti in fiore”, rally of cyclo-tourism beginning at 8:30 AM. It is organized by La Tafani Bike ad. From 10 AM to 8 PM the market will be open.
A farm lunch will be available at 12:30 PM. You can taste typical products from the Fattoria Pasolini dall’Onda Borghese in the heart of Barberino and visit the medieval cellars of the castle.
The center of town will continue its animation in the afternoon with the traveling band, “Badabimbumband”, at 4 PM. It is made of of saxophonists and percussionists. An art show featuring the paintings of Fiorella Lisi will be featured at the fair.
In the rooms of “il Barrino”, there will be a charity fair and a refreshment stand organized by the church charity (Caritas).
