The 46th Chianti Classico Expo is a story made up of people, territories, landscape preservers, creative and passionate farmers, sensitive and dynamic entrepreneurs, innovative artisans and connoisseurs of the heritage which makes Tuscany second to none in the theme of biodiversity.

The town of Greve in Chianti, in collaboration with the Tuscan Region and the Consortium of Chianti Classico wine, puts the essence of Chianti on display.

It is the land which, in the 1600’s, tied its name to the wine obtained locally, and which today is considered a first class cultural, scenic, and food/wine entity. The Chianti Classico Expo, which comes to life from Thursday, September 8 to Sunday, September 11 in the heart of Greve, shines the spotlight on the best production of Chianti Classico.

Last edition’s numbers confirm the great success of this unique event which showcases the entire Chianti Classico wine producing zone through its work, challenges, and the ambition of its producers. It is an event which in four days in 2015, was visited by circa 15,000 wine tourists. More than 8.000 goblets of wine were sold.

The expectations for the 46th edition is also high, considering the mass participation of the wineries, the highest reached during the long history of expo Chianti Classico. Those registered for 2016 include about 100 wineries, 62 of which will be displayed in Piazza Matteotti, with the others represented in the pavilion of the Chianti Classico wine consortium.

It will be possible to taste more than 200 wines in the pavilion. Although they have differences, the producers of Chianti Classico are able to be globally competitive, making the land of the “Gallo Nero” (Black Rooster) a leader in the international market of wine production. They hold a productive approach and a model of development upon which the expo of Chianti Classico bets upon, hoping to expand their range of interest and to intensify the promotion of food/wine and cultural potential in the territory.

The exhibition is particularly rich in wine tasting events and cultural proposals, characterized by the various forms of entertainment and street music which alternate in the historic center and neighborhoods of Greve. Citizens and tourists will be able to purchase a goblet for 10 Euros which includes seven tastings.

Other local products will be on display: olive oil, wine, cold cuts, cheeses. In addition to the music which will include various traveling shows, there will be a guided wine tasting in the hall of the town Council.

The journalist and wine critic, Riccardo Margheri, will lead the tasting on Saturday, September 10, from 11 AM to 1 PM and from 5:30 PM to 7 PM. There will also be an interesting cycle of meetings, focusing on some of the most current themes regarding the world of wine.
