The awaited River Trophy, unusual and addicting adventure, returns this year. The participants are original boats commanded by crews happy in the humorous spirit of the event.

The fun will begin the morning of Sunday, June 19, and involves an itinerary that begins in Barberino Val d’Elsa (precisely from “La Zamba”) and ends in Castelfiorentino.

Crews will try to resist the hidden dangers of the river in the 15 kilometers along the way. Median time for the course is around 5 hours.

Like last year, the 2016 edition, “Aspettando (waiting for) the River Trophy”, is made possible by the contribution of the Associazione Pescatori Sportive (Sport Fishermen’s Association), Associazione Rione il Vicar, Audio PumpnFlex and ProcivCertaldo and is organized in occasion of the obligatory stop at the Certaldo sports fishing field required by the rules.

The teams will arrive in Certaldo starting at noon, and will be able to refresh themselves at the field. The boats will reach the section of the Elsa River where they will be met by a refreshment stand with sandwiches and drinks for all present.  This will be accompanied by music which will animate the event.

The teams will stop between noon and 3pm. The river regatta will end in Castelfiorentino in the afternoon, near the Elsa Bridge, where there will be additional refreshments offered by the CCN Tre Piazze Association. Along the route, there will be many observation points, the best are along Ulignano, Certaldo, (near the race field) and at Castelfiorentino, at the embankment in Vecchiarelle, at the entrance to the floodway.

Born in 1991 by a group of townspeople looking for adventure, the River Trophy is characterized as a non-competitive regatta on the Elsa River.

It has become the emblem of the biting, playful and irreverent spirit that Curzio Malaparte explained efficiently in “maledetti toscani” (damned Tuscans).

After a pause in the early years of 2000, it started again and has involved many, mostly young people, who participate and build their own boats with strange, diversified, and original materials, and then stupefy the public with the down river challenge.

The event is aimed at fun and games, at the joyous and respectful approach to the river, to nature and solidarity. Like every year, the proceeds from the entries will be donated to charity. The organizers, in fact, confirm the spirit of the initiative: the Valdelsa River Trophy is promoted as a non-competitive regatta: it isn’t important to arrive first, but to create original and entertaining boats.
