We are talking about the “Presepe Chiantigiano” made at the church of San Sigismondo, in Gaiole in Chianti, which will be visible for all the Christmas holidays. One more reason to visit Gaiole under the holidays.
Here Don Hector Largo and his parishioners make a real work of art on the theme of the Nativity. Which gives centrality to a symbolic product: extra virgin olive oil.
“The Chianti nativity scene – we read in the presentation – represents the life of an area dedicated to the cultivation of olive trees and the production of oil since ancient times”.
“For centuries – the presentation closes – the people of Chianti have demonstrated either the prayer for the harvest to be made or the thanksgiving for the harvest made of the indispensable fruit, irreplaceable for their sustenance”.
In short, a nativity scene in … all oil: a religious celebration of an iconic product of all of Chianti.
