Going food shopping in Tavarnelle is now a synonym of quality and responsible shopping. Local production emanates perfumes and flavors of cabbage, spinach, carrots, honey, cheeses, and olive oil in Piazza Cresti.
The 0 kilometer market has begun in one of the historic piazzas of Chianti. The piazza, called “piazza vecchia” by the locals, hosted the first of a series of events aimed at giving value to typical local products.
“The objective is to guarantee the consumer freshness”, says the deputy mayor, Davide Venturini. “We are sure of the genuineness of the product and the identity of the producer. The market is organized in an experimental form in collaboration with and thanks to the support of the Associazioni Territoriali Coldiretti and C.I.A.”.
Twelve appointments in which the protagonists will propose their excellent products from 8 AM to 1 PM on Thursdays, biweekly.
“The first day was a success – says Venturini – Many people came to the market and bought products, expressing their appreciation and the opportunity to have a direct contact with the producer; to know his history and experience”.
The initiative increases the amount of faith, maturity and knowledge on the part of the consumer, who finds himself learning about the seasonality of our local and regional typical products and about the quality of the raw materials and their transformation: the cost of a middleman is also reduced.
The 0 kilometer food and vegetable market is reserved to the direct sale of products of local agricultural producers, according to the ministerial decree of November 20, 2007.
To assist the market, traffic is prohibited in the Piazza from 7 AM till 2 PM. The 0 km market will take place on the following dates: November 3 and 17, December 1, 15, and 29, January 12 and 26, February 9 and 23, March 9 and 23, and April 6 and 20.
