On September 24, 1716, an edict by Cosimo III represents an historical turn in the history of the Chianti Classico territory: a law governing the principal resource of the socio-economic fabric of the territory, the production of wine is instituted.

The economic structure of this area has evolved with time, but its wine is still a point of reference, not only for its quality but also for the rich cultural background into which it is inserted; that which yearly attracts tourists from all over the world.

The landscape of Chianti is not the only element that attracts thousands of tourists to choose these hills; it is a certain lifestyle as well: one which combines beauty and culture and wine and cuisine in particular but not only.

For the 300th anniversary of the Chianti Classico territory we will be favored with an especially rich season, with 38 events offered between April and October, featuring sports and music venues, a conference on history and art,  and of course wine and gastronomy.

We can escape to the past in Radda (Medieval Radda), participate in a marathon (June 5th in San Casciano and October 15/16  in Castelnuovo Berardenga), attend an organ music festival in Radda in Chianti (from June to August) or a blues fest in Castelnuovo Berardenga in July.

There will by breathtaking scenarios for cycling lovers, amateur and professional, but also for spectators: May 15th we have an appointment with the “Giro d’Italia” and on September 18 there is the “Gran Fondo del Gallo Nero” race, and the “Eroica” on October 4 for the lovers of vintage and extreme contests.

Appointments with Tuscan cuisine are many; from the modern “street food” format (San Casciano in June) to a culinary contest of the symbolic dish of the region, the Florentine beefsteak, (Mercatale in June), as well as many others.

Of course, accompanying these traditional dishes is the Gallo Nero wine, which will be celebrated over the course of 5 months.

Here are the coming events.

“Ruffoli Wine Festival” (Ruffoli, Greve in Chianti April 23-24); “Pentecoste in Castellina” (“Pentescot in Castellina”, Castellina in Chianti, May 14-15), “Profumi di Lamole” (“Scents of Lamole”, Lamole, Greve in Chianti, June 2-5), “Radda nel bicchiere” (“Radda in a glass”, Radda in Chianti, 4-5 June); “Notte Rosa” (“Pink Night”, Barberino Val d’Elsa, July 7); “Calici di Stelle” (“Chalices of stars”, August 10, Castellina in Chianti; August 12, Castelnuovo Berardenga): Chianti Classico Expo (Greve in Chianti, September 8-11); “Vino al Vino” (“Wine to Wine”, Panzano in Chianti, September 16-18), “Montefioralle Divino” (“Divine Montefioralle”, Montefioralle, Greve in Chianti, September 24-25).
