The Chianti Classico Collection 2019: the various guides, specialised websites, blogs, are drafting their rankings of the best wines that emerged during the highly popular two days of tastings organised by the Consorzio Vino Chianti Classico at the Stazione Leopolda, in Florence.
Everyone was expecting the verdict of Gambero Rosso, which has always been a reference point in the Italian wine world. It’s a very positive response that gives the Chianti Classico wines good vibes and perspectives.
The best Chianti Classico wines are from the municipalities of the Sienese territory (Radda in Chianti in particular), that scored much higher points than the wines produced in the Florentine Chianti Classico (Greve in Chianti in the first place).
According to Gambero Rosso, these are the best wines of 2017 vintage: Badia a Coltibuono (Gaiole in Chianti), Chianti Classico 2017; Castello di Monsanto (Barberino Val d’Elsa), Chianti Classico 2017; Dievole (Vagliagli, Castelnuovo Berardenga), Chianti Classico 2017; I Fabbri (Lamole, Greve in Chianti), Chianti Classico Lamole 2017; Monterotondo (Gaiole in Chianti), Chianti Classico 2017; Castellare di Castellina (Castellina in Chianti), Chianti Classico 2017; Cigliano (San Casciano), Chianti Classico 2017.
These are the best wines of 2016 vintage: Poggerino (Radda in Chianti), Chianti Classico Bugialla Riserva 2016; Castello di Volpaia (Radda in Chianti), Chianti Classico Riserva 2016; Monterinaldi (Radda in Chianti), Chianti Classico Riserva 2016; Maurizio Alongi (Gaiole in Chianti), Chianti Classico Vigna Barbischio 2016; Pomona (Castellina in Chianti), Chianti Classico Riserva 2016; Caparsa (Radda in Chianti), Chianti Classico Caparsino Riserva 2016; Borgo La Stella (Radda in Chianti), Chianti Classico Gran Selezione 2016; Castello di Ama (Gaiole in Chianti), Chianti Classico San Lorenzo Gran Selezione 2016.
Gambero Rosso has given its verdict: Siena “beats” Florence; 12 Chianti Classico wines from Siena against 3 Chianti Classico wines from the Florentine Chianti territories.
