He has built a wood oven on an old cart; he uses a vintage “buratto” (sieve to separate the bran from the flour) as a work surface.
And coming from Tavarnelle he travels around the Chianti to offer his service – cooking pizza … at your home.
His name is Riccardo Morandi, also known as “The Pizzaiolo Vagabondo” (Wandering Pizzaiolo) “I say jokingly – he explains – that I go around like a vagabond taking good pizza to the people who ask for it”.
“The pizza base – he says – is made in the old way to be light, crispy and easy to digest. The toppings are chosen by me to have the best result and quality”.
In Tavarnelle is already … a legend: it does not happen often to have a pizza cooked ‘live’ at home, and maybe even in your garden.
Creativity, fantasy and the desire to try out his idea: and the “Wandering Pizzaiolo”… travels among us.
