Meat lovers! Mark your calendar for Friday and Saturday, June 16 and 17, especially if you love Florentine beefsteak.

These will be two days in which Mercatale Val di Pesa (San Casciano), hosts the traditional and unmissable Championship of the “Bistecca” in piazza Vittorio Veneto.

It is not an easy challenge. The sixth edition of the championship, promoted by the Township of San Casciano  and the Pro Loco, will end with the declaration of the contestant who ingests the largest quantity of meat.

For example, one of the contestants devoured 3.441 kg of steak in an hour, breaking every record.

The contest begins with the purchase of steaks of any weight and quantity at one of the local butcher shops which adheres to the initiative.

This is followed by the scale: each steak will be weighed according to antique scales offered by the locals.

The cooking: Master meat chefs will take care of the preparation and reveal cooking secrets to hundreds of people, both locals and tourists, who desire to learn the art of cooking on the grill.

Finally….”A tavola!” The steaks will be eaten accompanied by a glass of red, obviously Chianti Classico.
