In the ancient castle of medieval origin in Barberino Val d’Elsa the squares, streets and terraces prepare to welcome the fragrant garden of “Barberino in fiore”.

The colors of the roses and the seasonal flowers blend with the taste of wine and the flavors of the best local productions, the creative talent of the master craftsmen mixes with the genius of past and contemporary artists.

The municipality of Barberino Tavarnelle, which boasts the Orange Flag tourist-environmental quality mark, hosts the fourteenth edition of “Barberino in fiore”, promoted by economic operators with the contribution and patronage of the Municipality and the support of various partners.

The market exhibition dedicated to the flowers, food and wine, crafts and art of Chianti and Valdelsa, will bring nature into the village on Saturday 7 May from 3pm to 9pm and Sunday 8 May from 10am to 8pm.

The event is characterized by a large exhibition of roses, flowers and plants of the territory, local food and wine products, handicrafts and paintings and sculptures.

 

THE PROGRAM

On Saturday 7 May the exhibition-market from 3 pm will show the most precious species of roses, flowers and plants and will be enriched by the participation of the fifteen professionals who are part of the Tradizione Artigiana project, promoted by the Municipality.

The “handmade” experts will exhibit their excellence in the courtyard of the prestigious Palazzo Corsini.

“Barberino in Fiore” will alternate the essence of the plant world with the tasting of wines and typical products of the area.

The farms offer tastings with the possibility of buying the glass of the party which ensures 2 tastings for only 5 euros.

One of the key events on Saturday 7 May is the visit narrated on foot along the main streets of the historic center by Francesco Mattonai.

A new edition of the “hidden Barberino” initiative, accompanied by a tour of narratives and characters that are linked to the history of the origins of the medieval castle.

The afternoon is dominated by the singing of the girls and boys of the comprehensive “Don Lorenzo Milani” Institute who will perform in choir at 3 pm in via Vittorio Veneto.

Also for the little ones, a workshop has been set up with readings in the gardens of Piazza Mazzini on the theme of gardening and planting flowers (5 pm).

At 3.30 pm the sparkling Jaguars will be on display in Piazza Ugo Capocchini.

The notes will begin to spread from 6.30 pm for the historic center of Barberino with the steps of the dancer painter Roberta Saccocci who will perform in the streets of the center and the jazz concert and not only from 9.00 pm in via Vittorio Veneto of the Big Band 50028 in collaboration with the Barberino Tavarnelle Music School “Officine Creative del Chianti”.

 

Sunday 8 May the festival in the sign of the scents and colors of the plant world continues for the whole day from 10 to 20.

The program of events comes alive from the morning (10 am) with live music from the Barberino Tavarnelle School of Music “Officine Creative del Chianti”.

At 10.30 Piazza Capocchini hosts the collection of the historic motorcycles of the former driver Augusto Brettoni.

In the afternoon, at 3.30 pm, the restoration of the detached fresco depicting the Annunciation in the Church of San Bartolomeo will be presented.

Music continues to be the protagonist from 4.30 pm in the square and in the streets of the historic center with the show “Opus Band”, produced by BadaBimBumBand.

During the two days, in the Barrino premises and in the church garden, the food and wine stand will be active with the possibility of tasting the warhorses of the Tuscan tradition by economic operators and the parish Caritas.

The Spedale dei Pellegrini hosts the contemporary art exhibition “Women & Flowers” until May 15, a collective exhibition curated by the Operarte association.

It will be possible to visit the historic cellars and the undergrounds of the medieval village and taste the products of the Fattoria Pasolini Dall’Onda Borghese.

In addition, the entire historic center will be adorned with antique garden objects made available by the Rama di Barberino Tavarnelle company.
