Every small town and village around the Chianti region is waiting for Father Christmas. Santa Claus stimulates kids’ imagination and titillates the palates of grown-ups with seasonal treats, street markets, traditional local food and wine products, but also with music and choirs.

In Greve in Chianti, the Christmas celebrations begin with the traditional markets in Panzano (December 3rd) and in town of Greve (December 8th) where in Piazza Matteotti a few events will take place: La Tarumba’s lively show, the distribution of the gifts at 4pm, plus treats such as roasted chestnuts, fettunta and mulled wine.

On the 8th of December, San Polo in Chianti will be celebrating with music, games and readings of Christmas tales. The Comitato Turistico of San Polo will make a toast and light up the Christmas tree in the main square at 6pm. The Mangiapane cloister will be open to visitors.

Strada in Chianti is also ready to feel the festive spirit, as Piazza Landi hosts the Christmas market and the nativity scene promoted by local shop keepers and the Pro Loco of Strada. You’ll also be able to enjoy the children’s choir of the Greve in Chianti Music School.

In the streets of Panzano the traditional nativity scenes will be shown side by side with local artists’ works inspired by the nativity theme. The exhibition will start on December 8th and end on January 7th.

There will be a Book Fair in Panzano on the 16th of December, and on the 17th the Castello di Verrazzano will host a Christmas greeting event dedicated to the elderly and invalids. This is a special time of celebration and events that spread the festive feeling in the Chianti region.

During the month of December, San Casciano historic centre will be the stage of various shows, itinerant music and choral songs proposed by the Centro Commerciale Naturale La Dolce Gita, in collaboration with the Municipality and the Pro Loco.

The Niccolini Theatre will be filled with the merry spirit of Christmas on Saturday, December 2nd at 9.30pm, during the show “Ali”, with professional, differently-abled actors directed by Antonio Viganò. On Sunday 3rd at 6pm it will be the turn of the Light Gospel Choir directed by Letizia Dei, by A.M.A. Associazione Malattie Autoimmuni.

In Barberino and Tavarnelle, the supportive spirit of the community is expressed through the concert “Waiting for Christmas”, scheduled for Friday 15th December at 9.30 pm in the Church of Santa Lucia at Borghetto with the parish choir. The proceeds will go towards supporting the families of Musicchio, a small hamlet near Amatrice.
