To celebrate its 90th anniversary the famous Mille Miglia vintage car race will cross Chianti Classico territory, at Villa Trasqua, a wine estate and member of the Consorzio as well as official wine sponsor of the sporting event.

The production zone for Chianti Classico wine, which last year celebrated the 300th anniversary of its first official designation through the Notice issued by Cosimo III de Medici in 1716,  has always been a favourite venue for high profile sports events and meetings.

Having hosted the ninth stage of the 2016 Giro d’Italia (Chianti Classico Stage), the first stage to be named after the wine produced there, in the hills between Greve and Radda in Chianti, another international event will be held here in 2017.

The 35th commemorative edition of the Mille Miglia will take place from Thursday 18th to Sunday 21st May, with four stages from Brescia to Rome and back, involving 440 vintage cars of extraordinary historical, technical and sporting value.

“Our innate passion for challenges  led us to take a chance on the Mille Miglia,” explains Alan Hulsbergen of Villa Trasqua, “the best vintage car race in the world, combining tradition, innovation and Italian pride, values which are also expressed in our estate and our wines”.

Alberto Piantoni, Managing Director of 1000 Miglia Srl , which is organizing and promoting the race for the fifth year running, underlines that “the stage in Chianti Classico will delight all the participants and offer them a chance to discover one of the most beautiful and culturally rich areas in Italy”.

“The visit of this unique travelling museum, as Enzo Ferrari described the Mille Miglia, to Chianti,” explains Sergio Zingarelli, Chairman of the Consorzio Vino Chianti Classico, “represents a crucially important showcase for Chianti tourism, culture, knowledge of wine and awareness of the scenery and hospitality available in our area”.
