“The “Eco-Marathon” is an awaited and consolidated appointment. For 10 years, it has united the passion for footing and racing in unique landscapes, and represents a great occasion to promote sustainable tourism and the territory thanks to teamwork and many volunteers”.

With these words Fabrizio Nepi, mayor of Castelnuovo Berardenga, welcomes the 10th edition of the Eco-Marathon of Chianti (Sunday, October 16). The event, which includes many other activities, begins on Saturday, October 15.

“Castelnuovo Berardenga”,  adds its first citizen, “is ready to greet hundreds of people in the 10th edition of the marathon. It is rich in initiatives and presents the possibility, once again, to make known its assets, starting with scenery, history, and food/wine. The numbers of the 2016 edition confirm the value of this event, which joins athletes and sports fans who are ready to travel courses immersed in nature. The event is awaited also by those who wish to discover and rediscover our territory with walks and slow and sustainable tourism initiatives”.

Here are the numbers. As of today, the entries are 650 for the eco-Marathon, 42 km, leaving from Brolio for the 2016 edition; 1150 for the Chianti Classico trail of 21 km; 450 for the 14 km competition… all three in program for Sunday, October 16.

On Saturday, October 15, the Nordic Walking Federale, competitive, and the Arceno Nordic Walking, non competitive, will include 470 people. On Saturday, in addition, there will be a new edition of “Passeggiando per cantine” (walking in the wine cellars”, with 850 participants and reservations closed since last summer.

On Sunday morning, you can sign up for the “Ecopasseggiata” (Eco-walk) of 10 km which will travel along the three competitive paths. There is an increase in foreign participants, with more than 400 signed up from 20 different countries.
