A running trail in the scenic Chianti hills, among the vineyards where some of the most celebrated wines in the world are born.

This wonderful landscape will be the setting for the first edition of the Chianti Trail Ultra, a running competition that will take place between 23rd and 25th March in the area between Florence and Siena.

This is a unique experience that combines passion for nature and history, competitive spirit and the discovery of the territory.

The 73 km Ultra Trail has its start and end point in Radda in Chianti. A race through vineyards and olive groves, castles and villas that have bewitched people from all over the world.

“Chianti Ultra Trail is part of a series of events organised in the historic Chianti region, dedicated to sport, tourism and local food. The Ultra Trail is the ideal way to discover our land and enjoy its beautiful natural setting”, says Matteo Matteuzzi of Chianti Live, organiser of the event.

Three trails will start and finish in Radda in Chianti: Trail Ultra (73 kms. and 2600 meter climb), Chianti Trail (37 kms. with 1200 meter climb), and Short Trail (15 km and 600 meter climb), across pristine territory rich in history and traditions.

“We have included three different trails,” he continues, “because we’d like to give everybody the chance to discover our territory, to involve both those who want a short jog among the vineyards and the sportsman who wants to test his physical preparation and do some serious exercise. But always with the landscape and good wine as the focus. The 15 km route is feasible for everyone, the 37 km is more demanding in length and layout, while the 73 km will test even the most experienced runners”.

The three-day program will start on Friday 23rd march, with the technical briefing.

The races will depart on Saturday march 24th at 6am. On 25th march it’s the turn of the Ultra Wine in Radda in Chianti: in the Casa Chianti Classico, a restored ancient Franciscan monastery – today official seat of the Consorzio del Vino Chianti Classico – all participants will have the opportunity to take part in a guided tour of the “Museo Sensoriale del Vino Chianti Classico” (Sensory Museum of Chianti Classico Wine) or a full immersion in the world of the Chianti Classico wines with the special event “How to become a sommelier in 30 Minutes”.

“I want to thank our partners: the Municipality of Radda in Chianti for their work in the logistical administration, the Consorzio Chianti Classico for taking care of the awards dinner at the Casa del Chianti Classico and the Sunday Ultra Wine activities, Nencini Sport for advertising the event in their stores and online and for offering some of the prizes, the Dievole company for the use of their natural Path” concludes Matteuzzi.
