The Chianti Classico Marathon is a paradise of sensations among the most beautiful hills of the world. Running through forests, trails, and the villages of Chianti reminds us of when we were children. You get to know yourself while running through the heart of Chianti.

The grand Chianti Classico Marathon, born of the recuperation of a sports tradition of the 1970s, returns with a rich and attractive schedule. It is programmed for Sunday, May 7, and is made up of three different trails: the ultra trail, trail, and the Nordic walker.

For athletes and fans, the townships of San Casciano, Tavarnelle, Barberino Val d’Elsa and Greve in Chianti propose a trip in the discovery of the deepest parts of ourselves; a point of contact between the marathon runners and a land which historically inspired some of the greatest representatives of Italian culture, a trail in the exploration of the essence of nature and Italian roots.

The event is organized by the Podistica Sancascianese, the Unione Polisportiva Tavarnelle, the sporting associations of Panzano, with the partnership of the consortium of Vino Chianti Classico and  ChiantiBanca.

ARRIVING IN MERCATALE

Here are the details of the trails. The first, the ultra trail, runs along 48 km (from Mercatale to Mercatale), the second the trail, consists of 24 km (from Panzano in Chianti to Mercatale) and the third, Nordic walker, is 10 km long (from Badia a Passignano to Mercatale).

The Chianti Classico Marathon is fascinating and takes athletes in the exploration of  unpaved roads, trails, sections of forest and vineyards: “The race”, say the assessors, “leaves its sign by showing some of the most prestigious scenery of Chianti”.

STARTING FROM PANZANO (24 km)

From the 1000 year old Badia a Passignano, one of the oldest Abbeys of Italy, to the castles of Verrazano, to the villages of Panzano and Montefioralle, to the naturalistic Valigondoli and its patchwork of colors, perfumes, traditions and excellent wineries, which unite the triangle of Montefiridolfi, il Palagio, Campoli, and Tignanello, the race makes this piece of Tuscany unique.
