The Christmas tradition lights up Greve in Chianti and extends the richness and variety of a widespread cultural and social heritage through its towns and piazzas.
There are 15 appointments promoted by the Township, together with territory associations and committes, to celebrate Christmas with a wide program of events.
“Aspettando il Natale” (Waiting for Christmas), is in program from December 3 to January 6 in Greve and its environs. There is a different event for every locale, from San Polo to Lucolena, passing through Strada, Panzano and Chiocchio.
The associations and citizens are getting organized with events for all tastes and ages, in collaboration with artisans, artists and business operators.
The Christmas show will raise its curtain on Saturday, December 3, in San Polo in Chianti with the show, “Il cabaretto 2: the ideal weight of the laugh”.
The first holiday event on Sunday, December 4, will animate Panzano with the market, “Aprilante”, along the streets of town. For those who love holy music, on Sunday, December 4, it will be the turn of the Polyphonic Chorus of Chianti which will present a concert at the church of Santa Cristina in Strada in Chianti, beginnning a cycle of musical exhibitions tied to Christmas.
On December 8, the comet of “Aspettando il Natale” will move to Greve and illuminate piazza Matteotti, where, on December 8, the large tree will be lit up, thanks to the support of the natural shopping center, “Le botteghe di Greve” (5PM).
Following, the students of the Domenico Giuliotti primary school will sing Christmas songs on the steps of the church. For the entire day, from 10 AM to 6 PM, the heart of Greve will be animated by the Christmas Market by artisans and others and by entertainment provided by “Tarumba” with the arrival of Santa Claus (3 PM).
In Panzano, December 8, the Feast of Santa Cecilia will take place, with the celebration of Holy Mass at the church of Panzano, a concert by the Verdi Philharmonic and the opening of the exhibit of artistic mangers which will enrich the streets and courtyards of the antique village, together with works by artists inspired by the Christmas theme.
In San Polo, the manger will come alive thanks to the participation of the youth of the town, protagonists of the living Nativity scene, in the schoolyard from 10 AM to noon and from 2 PM to 4 PM. In San Polo, the Parents’ Association, il Cerchio, and the tourist committee will decorate and light up the tree in piazza Garibaldi at 10 AM.
Christmas themes in the area are also tied to environmental sustainability and the valorization of typical local products. From 10 AM to 6 PM, the food market will accompany the recycling market, “Svuota la soffitta” (Empty the attic).
The Feast of the Immaculate Conception will conclude with a concert by the Gospel chorus and a toast with vin brulè and roasted chestnuts.
