The 10th edition of the Chianti Ecomarathon which took place over the weekend of October 15-16 was an unforgettable event.
With its nearly 5.000 participants, competitive and not, it was confirmed as an important appointment for its capacity to unite sport and the valorization of the territory.
This year had special meaning since it was the 300th anniversary of the consortium of Chianti Classico wine. The Castello di Brolio, symbol of the celebrated wine, was the starting point Sunday morning for the longest competition, and ended, after 42 km, in Piazza Marconi in Castelnuovo Berardenga.
The Albanese, Andi Dibra, from the Polisportiva Volte Basse Asd, who led from the start, finished first with a time of 3 hours, 2 minutes, and 26 seconds. The second to arrive, as in the last edition, was Enrico Rivi from the Association Polisportiva Atletico Scandiano, with a time of three hours four minutes and 42 seconds. Third was Loris Fanton, from Asd Active, in three hours seven minutes and 57 seconds.
On the podium for the women for the longest distance were Ilaria Guasparri from S.S.D.S.Mens Sana in Corpore Sano, closed in three hours 33 minutes and 55 seconds. In second place was DanielaFurlani from the Asd Pol. Chianciano with a time of three hours 40 minutes and three seconds. Third Place went to Eleonora Chiara Tuttini from the 3.30 Running Team. Her time was three hours 44 minutes and 16 seconds.
The two days dedicated to the race started on Saturday, October 15, with “Passeggiando per cantine” (walking through the cellars), an 8 km path, with food and wine tasting in the wineries in the area. Registration for this event was already closed in June.
Around 850 participants attended the appointment which is a real itinerary of “taste”, and allows a complete immersion in the landscape of this corner of Tuscany.
On the same day, leaving from San Gusmè, was the sixth segment of the tricolor Nordic walking circuit “Agonistico Federale”, new for this edition, followed by the noncompetitive Arceno Nordic Walking which covered 11 km. Almost 500 participants walked with the traditional poles.
In the afternoon, in Teatro Alfieri, the meeting “Dal cammino alla corsa al trail: allenamento, alimentazione e supplementazione” took place (from walking to running to the trail: practice, nutrition, and supplements). Experts in the field were moderated by Daniele Menarini, codirector, of the magazine “Correre” (Running).
On Sunday, as tradition, the day was dedicated to the competitive spirit, with races of 42, 21 and 14 km plus the Eco-Walk of 10 km.
The number of registered including foreigners was 5.000, competitive and not. There were almost 600 foreigners from 20 different countries with athletes from France, Holland and the United States the most prevalent.
Among the participants for the 14 km race the Mayor of Siena, Bruno Valentini, participated once again and crossed the finish line with a final time of one hour 13 minutes and 25 seconds.
During the entire weekend Piazza Marconi in Castelnuovo hosted a market with quality products from the area, together with stands representing the sponsors and various running organizations.
