The ribbon was cut in grand style to inaugurate the 46th edition of the Chianti Classico Expo, the festival that will light up Greve in Chianti until Sunday, September 11.

There are already many tourists and wine lovers present in the Piazza Matteotti: the tasting stands of the more than 100 participating wineries as well as that of the Chianti Classico Wine Consortium were literally overrun by wine tasters.

Doing the honors was the mayor of Greve in Chianti, Paolo Sottani, accompanied by the Assessor of Productive Activities, Gionni Pruneti. The president of the Consortium of Chianti Classico wine, Sergio Zingarelli, as well as the general director, Giuseppe Liberatore, were also present.

There were many local mayors as guests of the event: David Baroncelli (Tavarnelle), Giacomo Trentanovi (Barberino Val d’Elsa), Massimiliano Pescini (San Casciano), Marcello Bonechi (Castellina in Chianti), Pier Paolo Mugnaini (Radda in Chianti), Alessio Calamandrei (Impruneta), and Francesco Casini (Bagno a Ripoli).

As tradition requires, there was a small parade around the stands, preceded by the music of the “Amici di Chianti” (Friends of Chianti) and by two “Galli” (roosters) (the rooster is the symbol of Chianti Classico).

One was black and one was white. The parade stopped in front of the statue of Giovanni da Verrazzano for the initial toast. Happy Expo 2016 to all!
