Street food and quality wine: a strange but viable pair and the challenge that the “Movimento Turismo del Vino Toscana” (Tourist Movement for Tuscan Wines-MTV) is betting on. Together with the National Association of Street Food, the awaited event, “Calici di Stelle” (Starlit Chalices) will take place during from August 6 to14.
More than 20 wineries belonging to the MTV will participate in the occurence which offers activities from sunset on. Its goal is to educate and entertain the thousands of visitors who will participate in the traditional summer event. The key evening will be August 10. The following is the calendar of events for tasting a good glass of wine in the Chianti Classico cellars.
LE FILIGARE (Via Sicelle 35, Barberino Val d’Elsa)
Wednesday, August 10: 12:30pm to 10:30 pm Wine Tasting…3 wines 10 Euros plus 5 Euros deposit for the glass Germoglio IGT, Chianti Classico “Le Filigare” 2014, plus a choice between Chianti Classico “Lorenzo” 2013 and Chianti Classico Riserva “Maria Vittoria” 2011. Street food will be available in the cellar by “Non Solo Pane” (Not only bread), with Tuscan specialties like pappa col pomodoro, Chianti Kebabs, “Pici all’aglione” and Tuscan cold cuts. From 7pm on, music by “Pillole in musica” with Luca Moriani: from 9pm on, moon and star observation with binoculars, an illustration of the sky map, myths and legends of the sky: hosted by the astronomic association Quasar, from Prato. PODERE DELL’ULIVETO (via Malafrasca 103, San Casciano)
Wednesday, August 10: 12:30pm to 10:30pm Cellar or field visit for technical explanations (also available from Saturday, August 6 to Sunday, August 14, from 10am to 11:30pm). Street food will be available in the cellar by the Osteria Mobile Toscana, food truck with Tuscan specialties: Hamburger from Chianina beef and lampredotto sandwiches. RUFFINO-TENUTA POGGIO CASCIANO (Via Poggio al Mandorlo 1, Bagno a Ripoli)
From Monday, August 8 to Saturday, Auagust 13: 9am to 6pm Gudied tours to the historical cellars and wine tasting, 20% discount on all offerings. Wednesday, August 10, from 11am to 9pm, the cellar will host street food from “Chianina Burger” August 10: “Waiting for the stars” with unusual combinations of Ruffino wines and delicacies from the Val di Chiana and Casentino. CASTELLARE DI CASTELLINA (Castellare, Castellina in Chianti)
From August 6 to August 14: 9am to 1pm and 2:30pm to7pm Guided tour of the winery and cellar with tasting of 3 wines. Reservations are required. ROCCA DELLE MACIE (Castellina in Chianti)
August 10: 10am to 6pm Free wine tasting: tasting of Rocca delle Macie with local cheeses(7 euros). Wednesday, August 10 “Rocca sotto le Stelle”(Rocca under the Stars) The cellar will host Massimo Benvenuto with “Fritto misto Napoletano” (Neapoletan fried foods) in the enoteca of Castellina in Chianti, located in via 4 Novembre 37. Evening opening of the enoteca with fried Neapoletan food matched to Rocca delle Macie summer wines: Moonlite, Vermentino and Rosato (5 euro deposit for the glass with tasting of Moonlite included).
