Three days of “popular” theatre, the adventures of Bertoldo and Bertoldino, will be held from Friday, June 24 till Sunday, June 26, at 9:30pm in the town of San Gusmè, suburb of Castelnuovo Berardenga.

The “Bruscello Storico” interpreted by the Bruscello Company of Castelnuovo Berardenga will present the shows in Piazza Castelli. This year’s edition is dedicated to Bertoldo.

The “Bruscello Storico” disappeared with the feudal system and become popular once more at the end of the 1990’s, attracting an increasing number of popular actors, many of them young. Many spectators also became enamored of the epic storytelling in popular rhyme.

The 2016 edition has chosen the classic comic villain, Bertoldo, joined by the imaginary court of Re (King) Alboino, his wily wife, Marcolfa and their silly son, Bertoldino.

The text for the three performances was written by Giuseppe Scuto and directed by Matteo Marsan, with musical arrangements by Mirco Mariottini, costumes by Laura Celesti and scenography by Alfiero Mini, Fabio Tiezzi and Fabrizio Iacomoni.

The “Bruscello Storico” has the support of the Township of Castelnuovo Berardenga, the Chianti Festival and the Fondazione Toscana Spettacolo. Tickets can be purchased on the evening of the show for 10 euros (reduced price tickets, 8 euros). On all three evenings it will be possible to dine from 7-9pm in the piazzas of town, tasting typical dishes of the area prepared by residents.
