In the heart of the land of great explorers and artists, from Amerigo Vespucci to Giovanni da Verrazzano up to Daniel Ferro, giant of international lyric opera, music could only explode under the summer sky.
Cultural notes and languages that bring spectators of every age to the piazzas, villages and public areas of Greve in Chianti and environs: a continuous walk among art, theatre, canto and tradition.
Greve, chosen as a scenic, environmental, cultural, sports and wine/food destination by visitors from all over the world: European travelers from France, Spain, the Northern countries and rediscovered by Italians themselves.
Theatre at San Francesco Musem
During the theatre collection with a view from the terrace of San Francesco, on Wednesday, July 12, comedy in vernacular explodes in all its vigor.
“Un cappello pieno di bugie”, written by Antonella Zucchini for the direction of the company, “Né fischi né fiaschi”, will go on stage.
On July 19, Alessandro Calonaci presents William Shakespeare’s “12th Night” with the Compagnia Mald’estro.
On August 2, “The Cherry Orchard”, liberally adapted from Anton Cechov by Dimitri Frosali, author and director of the show, interpreted by the Compagnia La macchina volante.
On the 9th of August, we pass to the passion for wine with “Di-Vini incantesimi del vino e dell’amore, le gioie e le pene narrando…”.
It will be presented by the Laboratorio Amaltea, and is adapted, interpreted and directed by Viviana Ferruzzi, Samuel Osman, Michela Stellabotte.
The last appointment of the theatre on the terrace is on August 23 with “Le beffe del Decamerone”, text and direction by Armando Burgassi and Alessandro Calonaci, interpreted by the actors of the Compagnia Mald’estro.

Opera in piazza Matteotti
Opera in the piazza is a Greve tradition continued by the Township for years with passion, thanks to the efforts of Alessandra Moletti of the “Ufficio di Promozione territoriale del Comune” and an array of great exponents of opera, like Daniel Ferro, who formed generations of talented promises of Belcanto over the years.
Thursday, July 6, at 9:15 PM “Così fan tutte” (II) by Mozart will be performed and Friday, July 7, the Church of Santa Croce will host the concert presented by the Orchestra da Camera of Greve in Chianti.
Reunion of Daniel Ferro Vocal Program
Regarding the great Daniel Ferro, Greve in Chianti will host a special event; a reunion between teachers and ex-students in memory of their American maestro.
A double appointment will review the career and artistic value of the artist. with the event Daniel Ferro Vocal Program.
July 14 at 8:30 PM and July 21 at 9 PM, the first concert, at the Castello di Verrazzano, the second at the Chiesa di San Leolino di Panzano in Chianti.
Belcanto in Tuscany
Belcanto in Tuscany is another collection that will entertain citizens and tourists during the evenings of July and August. Voice lessons, directed by Giovanni Reggioli, will alternate between July 31 and August 18 in master classes and in concerts open to the public.
Reggioli has directed in all of the cultural capitals of the world, after working at the Metropolitan Opera of New
York, in Washington, at the Scala di Milano and at the Teatro Comunale of Florence.
Don’t miss the shows: at August 4 at 8:30 PM at the Castello di Verrazzano with the possibility of dining in the extraordinary framework of the castle.
The 11th will feature a concert by the teachers of Belcanto in Tuscany on the terrace of the Museo di San Francesco and on the 18th, the event will take place in the piazzetta of Santa Croce in Greve in Chianti.
