An international conference and a book dedicated to Niccolò Machiavelli, in an effort to put this famous Italian writer, politician and historian in the spotlight.
These are the first steps of a cultural journey launched by the Municipality of San Casciano – and financed by the Ministero dei Beni Culturali – in collaboration with the association Sgabuzzini Storici.
The aim is to highlight Machiavelli’s heritage, right here in the place where in 1513 he wrote his famous political treatise: “The Prince”.
A heritage consisting made up of historic buildings and literary memories, that show the strong bond between the founder of modern political philosophy and the territory of San Casciano Val di Pesa.
In Sant’Andrea in Percussina, this Florentine intellectual who was forced into exile by the Florentine Republic, spent a very prolific period writing in the country villa Albergaccio.
The conference, which is entitled “Dalle antiche alle nuove ‘corti’. Machiavelli dai ‘castellucci’ di San Casciano all’epoca della comunicazione globale” (“From the ancient courts to the new. Machiavelli, from his past in San Casciano to a time of global communication”) is scheduled for the 16th and 17th November at Casa Machiavelli.
It brings together a group of eminent scholars who will be able to show what’s new in the field of Machiavellian criticism, and talk about the importance of reaching the widest possible audience with this recent research.
The Municipality of San Casciano is building the cultural foundations for the creation of a headquarters whose aim is to promote this important intellectual and the legacy that Machiavelli’s texts have left behind.
The project was carried out in collaboration with the Giv group, owners of the Machiavelli house, and the Saraceni group.
