In Chianti Classico territory, a must for “Pasquetta”, Easter Monday, is the market in piazza Matteotti in Greve in Chianti.

Every year, the traditional “Mercatino delle Cose del Passato” (Things from the Past), annual Antique Fair, is held in the heart of Greve.

Stands with restored furniture, some old, some which pass as “old”, and others with blankets, lanterns, antique dishes and silverware, glasses, toys, antique maps, mirrors, shoes and clothing… anything vintage goes.

Advice to enjoy the market? Come late morning, park right outside of town, and take a leisurely stroll to piazza Matteotti, where you can visit the various stands.

Lunch is full of choices; you can choose one of the restaurants with terraces facing the piazza or with tables on the piazza. Or you can find a sandwich from one of the many food trucks which arrive in Greve for the occasion.

After lunch, take another stroll among the antique stands; then a mid-afternoon coffee or a late afternoon snack with a prosciutto and  pecorino cheese sandwich.

Then, it is time to go home, after a lovely alternative to a picnic lunch.
