A triumph of colors in artistic installations created with local flowers is scheduled for April 29-May 1 in Gaiole in Chianti, in the heart of Chianti Classico, in the splendid Podernovi farm house on the Baron Ricasoli estate.
The event is Slow Flowers Italy, a free exhibition. It takes place in a special location, noted to cinema lovers as the set of the film “Io ballo da sola” by Bernardo Bertolucci, and starring a young Liv Tyler.
The farmhouse is presently uninhabited but will come alive thanks to the floral arrangements made by creatives, professionals and volunteers, with flowers provided by the agricultural cooperative, Flora Toscana.
On the main floor, the area of the old stables will be transformed into green scenery including a recreational space for children, where parents and offspring can play with flowers, scents and colors.
The following are the events: on April 29, at 11 AM there will be a roundtable discussion on the new ethic and aesthetic of Floral Design; on April 30, from 3 PM to 7 PM, Slow Flowers will host a guitar duo sponsored by the Alma Project.
Finally, on May 1, a 4 hour workshop on floral design will be held where you can create floral compositions in perfect natural and organic style together with “La Rosa Canina” and the “Profumo dei Fiori.” Prices, info and entry forms are available at slowflowerstuscany@gmail.com.
Slow Flowers Italy is a project born from an idea of Tommaso and Tania Torrini, owners of “La Rosa Canina”, the most important entity in Italian floral design, in collaboration with the photographer, Lelia Scarfiotti.
The objective of the event is to acquaint people out of the sector of the new tendencies in floral design: compositions with seasonal flowers, especially those local, which will seem the most possibly “au naturel”.
It is a way to give value to local producers and professionals and relaunch a sector in crisis. This, bearing in mind that Italy, and especially Tuscany, are among the primary goals of destination weddings.
The event is based on respect for the environment: the floral supplies will be made up of excess or unsold materials.
“Gaiole in Chianti is at the center of an important list of projects for sustainable tourism,” affirms the mayor, Michele Pescini. “Slow Flowers Italy is part of this circuit. It represents quality, sustainability and authenticity. It is an event of international importance created to sensitize the people to a more righteous, and above all, more local, market”.
The event is formed thanks to the work of many volunteers: from April 26 to April 28 they will work on the installations, cleaning, and collection of materials. The installations will come down on May 2. Every contribution will be gladly accepted.
If you are interested in becoming a volunteer, contact the organizers via email at slowflowerstuscany@gmail.com.
