More than 250 runners are ready to challenge each other among the vineyards that give birth to some of the most famous wines in the world, in occasion of the first edition of the Chianti Trail Ultra.

The event, scheduled from March 23rd to 25th 2018 in Radda in Chianti, is already receiving a great number of subscriptions, from Italy and abroad.

Many foreign athletes, from over 20 countries, have asked to participate in this trail set in one of the most evocative corners of Tuscany, between the provinces of Florence and Siena, where the competitive spirit is combined with the pleasure of experiencing a scenic and unspoiled landscape.

There are three routes scheduled with departure and arrival in Radda in Chianti: Ultra Trail (73 kms and 2,600 meters in height variation), Chianti Trail (37 kms with 1,200 meters in height variation) and Short Trail (15 kms and 600 meters in height variation).

Different tracks and various levels: the 15 kms. route is easy, also suitable for walking, the 37 kms. is more challenging in length and route, and finally the 73 kms. route will test even the most experienced runners. The latter two will also award points for the Mount Blanc Ultra Trail 2018: those who will finish the 37 kms. will be awarded one point, while four points will be assigned for finishing the 73 kms.

But there’s more. The finishers will receive an oak medal, obtained from the barrels where the Chianti Classico wine is aged, and all the participants will be given an original Consorzio del Chianti Classico wine glass, engraved with the Gallo Nero (Black Rooster) and a sommelier’s portable wine glass holder.

The runners of the 37 and 73 kms. routes will receive surprise prizes that will be unveiled only on the eve of the race! Chianti Trail Ultra is not just sport but also history of the territory and in fact, on Sunday 25th March, Ultra Wine is scheduled.

In Casa Chianti Classico, in Radda in Chianti, the participants will have the opportunity to take part in a guided tour of the “Museo Sensoriale del Vino Chianti Classico” (Sensory Museum of Chianti Classico Wine) or discover the Chianti Classico wines with the special event “How to become a Sommelier in 30 minutes “.

Chianti Trail Ultra is also about respecting the environment, and love for the beautiful natural landscape of the Chianti countryside. To preserve this precious heritage there will be a ban on throwing waste along the race path (under penalty of disqualification). There will be no plastic cups in the rest stops positioned along the route.

The Chianti Trail Ultra is open to everybody. You can sign up on the dedicated section of the official website www.chiantiultratrail.com. Until December 31st it’s possible to get a 20% discount (further discounts for groups). In any case, registrations will remain open in 2018 and for the latecomers it will be possible to sign up until March 24th.
