The establishment of the Distretto Rurale del Chianti (Rural District of the Chianti) and the candidacy of the Chianti territory as a UNESCO heritage site: the Mayors of Greve in Chianti (Paolo Sottani) and of San Casciano (Massimiliano Pescini) take stock of the situation.

“We’re at the beginning of an interesting journey – Massimiliano Pescini says about the candidacy of the Chianti area to be listed as a World Heritage Site – which can bring an added value to our territory. We’ve submitted the Chianti area in the UNESCO Tentative List, firmly believing in a territory that we consider exceptional not only as a wine production area but as a cultural landscape”.

“We want to invest in our territory as a whole – concludes – promoting its historical values, and understanding the landscape and its unique way of life“.

Mayor Paolo Sottani emphasised the objectives of the Chianti Rural District: “The Distretto Rurale represents a joint effort, born from the dialogue between the municipal administrations – in the context of the Conference of Mayors of the Chianti area – and the wine producers represented by the Consorzio Chianti Classico”.

“The recognition of ownership of all administrative boundaries – he concludes – is a milestone for sustainable development of our territory. At the moment we’re working on requesting national funds that, once obtained, will generate economic benefits not only in the agricultural sector but also in other productive sectors such as trade, industry and crafts”.
