“Il bello di essere piccoli ma di pensare in grande” (“The beauty of being small but thinking big”): this is the slogan for the 2018/2019 season of the Teatro Comunale Regina Margherita in Marcialla (Barberino Val D’Elsa).

The program – from November to April – includes over thirty performances: family shows, Tuscan folk, contemporary and experimental theatre, local companies’ performances, jazz with wine tasting and brass band concerts.

With a total of 22 shows over six months – 34 including the encore performances – that’s an average of six shows per month. They are divided by genre into five different sections, on which various artistic directors have collaborated.

There are three original productions, all national premieres, signed by the Regina Margherita Municipal Theatre. The extensive program has something for every taste, it presents several family shows, theatre plays and music.

“This year – explains Sara Innocenti, the president of the cultural association Marcialla – the curators have worked together to create a synergy between the different theatrical genres. Two of the shows will mix words with music from Italian operas: actors, musicians and opera singers will perform together to rediscover the characters and stories of Tuscan and Italian opera tradition”.

“Engaging with communities has always been one of the objectives of our work, so one of the kids’ show is in remembrance of the First World War, with a monologue dedicated to Danilo Dolci. The theatre is also collaborating with the community of Corleone, and the “Stile Farfalla” show by Francesco Mattonai won the honourable mention at the “Giacomo Matteotti” Award for literature and theatre, by the presidency of the Council of Ministers”.

“The show which is produced by the Tealtro company – she concludes – are: “The Dangerous Liaisons” by the writer Pierre Choderlos de Laclos, ”La Conquista della Luna”, a romantic comedy set around the time of the moon landing in 1969, and “Grazie per la compagnia”, a comedy that talks about how old people get lonely and the importance of keeping each other company”.

Alongside artistic director Gianfranco Martinelli (who takes care of the plays, various events and Jazz & Wine), we find Italo Pecoretti who handles the family shows, while Ornella Detti and Laura Masini take care of the Tuscan folk theatre.
