It’s no coincidence that the Consorzio Vino Chianti Classico has chosen the slogan “Chianti Classico Gallo Nero, Icon of excellence” for its new marketing campaign.

Many Chianti Classico wines have in fact collected prizes in the fifteenth edition of the Decanter World Wine Awards, the prestigious British magazine that each year publishes the results of one of the world’s most prestigious wine competitions.

The Gallo Nero wines have been awarded 5 platinum medals and 4 gold medals, with scores equal and above 95 points (out of a hundred).

The Grand Selezione, which are the best of the Chianti Classico DOCG wines, have won 3 platinum and 2 gold medals. Only grapes of the best quality are used to make these wines, and the producers have to meet strict regulations.

A very good result also for the Chianti Classico Annata and Riserva: a total of 93 have been awarded.

The DWWA’s jury is composed of over 200 international experts and wine sector professionals, including Masters of Wine and Master Sommelier.

The judges taste the wines, which are classified by categories and by region. Each judge tastes each wine autonomously, knowing the region of origin, the style and the price range, but not the producer or the brand.

Then all the tasting notes are compared to arrive at a unanimous decision on the medal to be assigned to each wine.

“The results achieved in this prestigious wine competition – says the President of the Consortium, Sergio Zingarelli – show the effectiveness of the path to quality that the territory of Chianti Classico and its Consortium of producers have been following throughout the years. This involves the whole supply chain, from the reorganization of the vineyard to the new production specification, which selects the Gran Selezione at the top of the Chianti Classico wines in terms of quality”.

“And since not only the top-quality wines were awarded – concludes Zingarelli – this is proof that we’re working well, and that the average quality of Gallo Nero wines has risen considerably: an achievement that is recognized everywhere in the world”.
