The Chianti Rural District, has been officially recognized by the Region of Tuscany

The Chianti Rural District got the green light from the Region of Tuscany with a decree signed off last 15^th January.

The aim of this body, established in November 2017, is to work all together in order to attract investments and promote the quality of this area: the bodies involved in this agreement are the municipalities of Barberino Val d’Elsa, Castellina in Chianti, Castelnuovo Berardenga, Greve in Chianti, Radda in Chianti, Tavarnelle, San Casciano, along with the Consorzio Vino Chianti Classico, the Consorzio Olio DOP Chianti Classico and the Fondazione per la Tutela del Territorio del Chianti Classico.

The official recognition made by the Region has been highly appreciated from all the bodies involved and that are coordinated by the Mayor Bonechi of Castellina in Chianti, nominated President pro-tempore from the District Assembly.

The entity governance is shared between the two authorities, in compliance with the regional law: the District Assembly (with open participation) and the District Association. The first act of this two bodies will be to develop an economic-territorial project focusing on the next five years and paying particular attention to topics like environment, city planning and landscape.

Thus, the Chianti Rural District represents the point of reference of the whole territory and the development policies, able to identify both internal and external resources.

The main task of the Chianti Rural District members will be also monitoring the plan and evaluating the accomplished results. There is one first ambitious goal: to succeed in signing the first District Contract aiming at carrying many opportunities and significant investments to the territory.

“We are very satisfied of the recognizion from the Region of Tuscany – states Sergio Zingarelli, the President of the Consorzio Vino Chianti Classico – For the first time in our area has been launched an interaction between public and private bodies and this will represent a flywheel to attract investments and promote the quality of our territory. The common goal of District members is to encourage the economic, social, cultural and touristic integration while respecting the preservation of natural balances and reach a shared planning of interventions”.

“The Chianti Rural District – says Marcello Bonechi, Mayor of Castellina in Chianti and coordinator of the municipalities within the Chianti of Siena and Florence that signed the agreement – delivers a long work started after having celebrated the 300^th anniversary of Chianti Classico aiming at strengthening the synergy between institutions and other economic and social entities operating in the territory who share the common goal to promote it and develop it more and more”.

“The ability of safeguarding the environment – adds Bonechi – the development of the relations among the different resources operating in the territory, the attention from consumers to quality and the identity of the relation between product and territory are just some of the topics that, as institutions, force us to carry out a careful and urgent debate with the economic and business representatives operating in the territory.  In this scenario, the Chianti Rural District unmistakably identifies a territory and a community with its story, culture and economy”.

After the official recognition from the Region, on January 22nd also the one from the Ministry joined in: among the new Food Districts, the national instruments of agricultural development there are also the rural districts and they will be included in the dedicated national Register.

Through this national extension, an additional channel comes in to support those projects that promote a territory as a whole, from the agricultural and wine productions, considered as an integral part of the economic fabric of the country and worthy of programmatic promotion and support.
