Tuscany, the home of wine and cycling. On the 24th September the 5th edition of  the Granfondo del Gallo Nero will be held at Radda in Chianti, and in 2017 it will also be a stage of the Prestigio di Cicloturismo, the circuit that has brought together top Italian cycling events for the last 22 years.

This is a significant acknowledgment for the young but already established Tuscan cycling competition which aims to discover the Chianti area on two wheels.

The V Granfondo del Gallo Nero will thus become a stage in a sort of “Giro d’Italia” for amateurs, which includes monumental tests like the classic Nove Colli of Cesenatico, Maratona Des Dolomites of Corvara and Sportful Dolomiti Race of Feltre.

There will be two routes available for the cyclists, according to their level of training, with a few new elements in the circuits offered.

Those with more training will take on the 133 km Granfondo (2,675m overall elevation gain), which crosses the Florentine side of the area before descending south towards Siena. Those who prefer a less challenging route can choose the 86 km Mediofondo (1,579m elevation gain).

This are hilly routes with some short but intense ascents, offering cyclists the chance to experience all the charm and magic of the Chianti hills during the grape harvest.

The starting and finishing point is Radda in Chianti, well-known for wine but now also for cycling.

After their exertions on two wheels, the cyclists from all over Italy and the world will be able to taste delicious Italian specialities at the final refreshments in the Gallo Nero Village, along with Chianti Classico wines served in crystal wine glasses: an exclusive for the Granfondo del Gallo Nero.
